Mr Rueben Alfred Lane

October 28, 1943 - August 8, 2014

The book of life was opened for Deacon Reuben Alfred Lane October 28, 1943, in Vero Beach, Florida. He was the first child of Mrs. Anna Lee Lane and the late Deacon Alfred Lane. He began his walk with Christ at Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church and later joined St. Peter's Missionary Baptist Church. Here he served as a deacon and treasurer. Throughout his life, he proved to be a dedicated servant for Christ. Reuben was a 1961 graduate of Gifford High School. He continued his studies at Paine College in Augusta, GA, where he earned his BA in social studies. While in College, he met the love of his life, Hattie Marie Jackson. In 1967, the two were joined in Holy Matrimony. To this union three children were born: Kenneth Sean, Anna Maria, and their daughter who preceded him in death, Katisha Monique. He served 2 years in the military as a communication specialist, returning home to start his career as a teacher for both Vero Beach Junior and Senior High School. In addition to being an educator, he served Indian River County as the owner and operator of Reuben Lane Lawn Maintenance. He was a member of several community organizations and served on the executive boards for the American Red Cross, Equal Opportunity Council, and Dollars for Scholars. He retired from teaching December 1995 and began serving with the Indian River County Retired Educators Association, and he served as president for a number of years. He enjoyed traveling, supporting his alma mater, photography, and spending time with his family. On Friday, August 8, 2014, his work on earth was completed and he was granted rest from his labor by our Lord and Savior. He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife of 46 years, Hattie Marie Lane; a son: Kenneth Sean (Terri) Lane; a daughter, Anna Maria (Lerod) Wilson; five grandchildren: Brenda, Kenneth Jr., Le'Anna, Lerod Jr., and Zachary. He is also survived by his mother, Anna L. Lane; a brother: Johnny (Claudia) Lane; two nieces: Dr. Latoya Lane, and Maxine Lane; One nephew: Johnny A. Lane; three god-children: Andrevious (Sherica) Jefferson, Veronica Parrish, and Pastor James (Toccara) Byrd, five brothers and sisters-in-law; a host of surviving aunts, uncles, cousins, and sorrowing friends.
