Mrs. Lillie Mae Walker

Lillie Mae Idlette Walker affectionately known as “Aunt Bet”, was born in Indian River County to the late Joe Nathan Idlette Sr. and Nancy Cookley Idlette on October 5, 1942. She was one of seven children born to this union. She received her formal education at the historic Gifford High School where she was a member of the girls’ basketball and cheerleading teams. Lillie Mae Idlette Walker completed typing courses at the Gifford Center and received her Certificate of Completion from The World Bible College. She was employed for several years with Pipers Aircraft. Lillie was joined in holy matrimony to John Willie Walker Sr., and to this union, three precious children were born. Lillie was she an active member of Macedonia Baptist Church and later transferred her membership to Mt. Zion AME Church. In both churches, Mrs. Walker happily sang in the senior choirs. She also served in additional church roles. Her greatest pleasures were putting together puzzles and spending quality time with her family, including crab feasts and playing family fun games. She really loved playing UNO. Her hobbies included gardening (she had an outstanding green thumb) and working diligently within her community. Lillie was a proud member of the Red Hat Society. She especially enjoyed multiple volunteer opportunities with the Gifford Youth Achievement Center (GYAC) food pantry, Mt. Zion AME soup kitchen, visiting sick community members and last, but not least exercise and dance classes with her fellow senior citizens at the GYAC. She was preceded in death by her son Darrell Brendale Walker; parents Joe and Nancy Idlette; sisters Fannie Mae Buckner, Josephine Taylor, and Joyce Littles. On August 25, 2023, God chose to add her to His beautiful heavenly garden. Left to cherish her memories are: her husband, John Walker Sr.; daughter, Tansey Brent (James), son John Walker Jr. (Shams); four stepchildren, Deborah Walker of Vero Beach, FL, Angela Walker of Atlanta, GA, Johnnie King Walker (Betty) of Orlando, FL, and Dawn Jones (Ken) of Oslo, FL; nine grandchildren, Trevonte Walker of Albany, GA, Tyler Brent, James Brent III of Haymarket, VA; Naeema Walker, Layla Walker, Eman Walker, Jennah Walker, Amineh Bell, and AJ Bell, all of Vero Beach; one sister, Gloria Idlette Wilson; two brothers, Joe Idlette Jr. (Bernice) and Eugene Idlette all of Vero Beach, FL; a special adopted daughter, Theresa Baxter and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and neighbors.
