Mr. James Williams

James Arther Williams fell asleep in death peacefully on July 23, 2026. He leaves a legacy of love, laughter and loyalty. James was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a beacon of light to all who met him. James was affectionately known as “Snookie” no matter what Beverly says.😃 He was born on December 28, 1947 in Gifford, Florida to Howard J. Williams and Willie Gilbert (Owens) Williams. He matriculated through the schools of Indian River County graduating from Gifford High School. Where, he was part of the award winning band, who recorded a professional album. He attended Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. He was drafted by the US Army and served in Vietnam. After returning from Vietnam he began working in the agricultural field until he joined the city of Vero Beach. During his tenure with the City of Vero Beach he joined his mother in attending the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses . He continued his meetings at the Kingdom Hall and dedicated his life to Jehovah. He was baptized on 12/31/1972. While attending meetings he met and fell in love with Beverly J Green. He, and Beverly were married on March 30, 1974. This union produced his pride and joy Jobina. He was a Ministerial Servant serving faithfully even while facing health challenges attending meetings on zoom when it became difficult to attend in person. He spoke about God’s promise to all he would meet. He discovered his love and natural talent for cooking. He worked for the Sheraton, The Dodgers and the New Orleans Saints, even being offered a permanent position as a chef that travels with the team. He owned his own restaurant named, Snookie’s, continuing to cater after choosing to close the physical location. He spent 26 years as a chef at the John’s Island Country Club. His food was legendary, especially his ribs, his fried chicken and his yellow rice pilaf. James was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Willie Williams, sister Minnie Ruth Ramsey and brother Freddie. He leaves behind a devoted and capable wife Beverly G Williams. A daughter Jobina Darling (Earnest). Siblings Edward J Williams(Harriet) and Paula Jones (Sammie jr) Although there was one biological child, they were parents to Yannis Curlis (Edward), Leon C. Rose. Grandchildren Jamari J Williams, Jo’el L Chavis, Ayanna J Williams, Amara Curlis, Jayden Curlis, Jaylen Curlis. Great grandchildren Jakari L Chavis, Jo’el L Chavis, Janylah L Chavis and Journee L Collier. A devoted friend Geoffrey Cameron and devoted childhood friends and classmates James Poppa Brown (Sandra), Anthony Greg Stewart, Leon Barnwell (Eula). A host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss him dearly. His family hopes his example inspires us all.
