Mr. Ben Leroy Green

Ben Leroy Green transitioned peacefully surrounded by his family on March 18, 2025. He was born in Monticello, Florida on November 11, 1954, to the late Robert Williams Sr. and Emma L. Gallon-Green. At the early age of two he became the stepson of Freddie L. Green Sr. Ben was a member of Antioch AME Church in Monticello, Florida. Ben’s family migrated to Indian River County in 1966. He became a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Spillway where he was baptized. Ben attended elementary school in Jefferson County and continued his education in the school district of Indian River County. In 1973 his senior year of high school, Ben decided to enlist in the United States Army. Ben received an honorable discharge after serving three years, six months, and three days in the Army. Ben worked at different restaurants as a cook around Indian River County and also maintenance work. Before his health began to decline, he had a passion for cooking and serving food throughout the community especially Thanksgiving. Ben was united in Holy Matrimony to Mable McGriff. To this union, one child was born. In later years Ben became the father of another son. He preceded in death by his father Robert Williams, Sr. and stepfather Freddie L. Green, Sr. and his brother James Richardson. He is survived by his wife, Mable McGriff-Green; sons, Le’Var Green Sr., and Montray Banks, grandsons; Le’Var Green Jr., and Decorrios Green; mother; Emma L. Green; sisters, Dorothy Green, Alma (Leonard) Dixon, Conna Edwards of Vero Beach Fl., Maybell Collins (Fort Pierce, Fl.), Monica (Martin) Bradley (Vero Beach, Fl.), Melissa (Marvin Sr.) Dupree (Atlanta, Ga.); brothers; Freddie (Glenda) Green Jr. (Vero Beach, Fl.), Eugene Green-Edwards (Fort Pierce, Fl.), Robert Williams Jr. (Atlanta, Ga.); stepdaughters, Ciesly Timmons (Tallahassee, FL.), Beverly Bass (Vero Beach, Fl.); step granddaughters; Jazzmine Meiver, Brandi Meiver (Vero Beach, Fl.); aunts, Lenora Williams (Vero Beach, Fl.), Louise Proctor (Monticello. Fl); uncles, James (MaryAnn) Gallon (Vero Beach, Fl.), Henry Gallon (Greenville, Fl.); nieces; Frenetta (Derrick) Adams (Vero Beach, Fl.), Mikayla Mosley (Winter Spring, Fl.) ,Aneshia Edwards (Orlando, Fl.); nephews, Freddie Green III, Javon Green (Vero Beach, Fl.), Quincy Dudley (Orlando, Fl.), Stephon Jenkins (Orlando, Fl.), and Kelvin Mayner (Daytona, Fl.); a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews ; his god sisters; Jeanette Perry , and Rhonda McGriff, god brother; Marcus Thompson, the Mills family and sorrowing friends.
